Uber has entered a deal to acquire Delivery Hero for $14.8B, creating the world’s most expansive delivery and mobility platform across 99 countries. The offer values Delivery Hero at $41.50 per share in cash.
Berlin-based Delivery Hero operates in about 65 countries across Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The company started as a food delivery service in 2011 and now runs its own delivery platform on four continents. It has also been pioneering quick commerce, aiming to deliver groceries and household goods within 20 to 60 minutes.
“Delivery Hero’s talented team has built an extraordinary business, with beloved local brands and strong positions across some of the world’s fastest-growing delivery markets,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “By bringing our platforms together, Uber will extend affordable, reliable delivery to many millions more people.”
Delivery Hero CEO Niklas Ostberg said the partnership would build on the company’s strengths in local food delivery and quick commerce. Uber’s existing network spans 34 countries, including the US, Canada, and parts of Europe and Latin America. The combined entity would face antitrust scrutiny across multiple jurisdictions but would operate in far more countries than either company covers alone.
