Europe’s venture market now belongs to AI in a way no other sector has managed. Per the 2026 European AI Economy Report from HumanX and Crunchbase, regional AI startups banked $23B in the first half of the year, up 130% from $10B in the same period of 2025 and equal to 55% of all venture capital deployed in the region.

The money is heavily concentrated at the top. Roughly 73% flowed to just 38 companies with rounds of $100M or more, and six startups crossed the billion-dollar threshold, among them Wayve, Alphabet’s Isomorphic Labs, Neura Robotics and Advanced Machine Intelligence, the physical AI lab co-founded by Yann LeCun.

Britain took the top spot with $12B, more than half of the regional total, while Germany and France pulled in $3.5B and $2.9B respectively. The Netherlands is climbing the ranks on outsized early-stage rounds like CuspAI’s $450M Series B.

“If the AI story was supposed to be a two-horse race, Europe didn’t get the memo,” said HumanX co-founder Stefan Weitz.

Looking ahead, Crunchbase expects 59% of the 1,000-plus European AI startups funded since 2022 to raise again within 12 months and 18% to become acquisition targets. One flag: companies with at least one female founder close 18% of deals yet take home just 10% of capital, a gap the report ties to mega-round concentration.
