Helsinki’s Ambio has raised €5.1M in seed funding for an agentic procurement platform that helps manufacturers buy recycled plastics with more confidence.
b2venture led the round, with Montis and existing backer Lifeline Ventures taking part. The company was founded in February 2023 by two former Slush team members, chief executive Tommi Bergstrom and product chief Elmo Pakkanen.
The market they are attacking is lopsided. Roughly 50,000 companies in the EU use plastics as a raw material, against about 1,500 that recycle them, and the mismatch leaves buyers hunting among scattered suppliers for a specific grade.
Quality adds a second problem. Post-consumer recycled material varies with what was collected and how it was processed, so characteristics shift between batches and engineers cannot plan around them.
Ambio’s platform covers the full purchasing cycle, from finding and sampling material through to long-term deliveries, combining supplier verification, material matching and logistics in one place.
The bet is that trust rather than technology is the binding constraint. If buyers can rely on what arrives, recycled content becomes a normal line item instead of a pilot project, and the demand gap starts to close.
