As a registered nurse in Accra, Ghana, I’ve witnessed firsthand how deeply technology is making waves in healthcare delivery. These innovative startups are not just enhancing patient care; they are also making quality healthcare accessible to every single Ghanaian, irrespective of where they live. To get straight to the point, here are ten healthtech startups transforming healthcare in Ghana today.

mPharma

One thing about Ghana—unfortunately, there are a lot of fake or replica products in circulation. And this can never be tolerated in the healthcare industry (not that it’s okay anywhere else, but you get what I mean). mPharma, with the aim of eliminating counterfeit drugs from the system, partners with pharmacies and hospitals to ensure people can access affordable, high-quality medication. They have helped over 400,000 patients save money while receiving safe, effective medications. How exactly are they doing this? They are fixing the broken drug supply chain not just in Ghana, but across Africa. Their platform allows patients, doctors, and pharmacists to interact, ensuring high-quality drugs are always available for everyone, no matter their location.

Rology

In many Ghanaian hospitals, radiology reports take days, sometimes weeks, to be processed. Rology uses artificial intelligence to match hospitals with remote radiologists, ensuring faster diagnoses. I remember a case where a patient needed an urgent scan, and thanks to Rology’s integration, the report was delivered in record time, allowing immediate intervention.

Redbird Health Tech

Getting tested for common illnesses like malaria, diabetes, or hypertension can be time-consuming in Ghanaian hospitals. Redbird Health Tech allows patients to take quick tests at pharmacies or even at home. Patients can simply get tested through a network of pharmacies and receive results in minutes rather than spending an entire day at the hospital after consulting a doctor.

Rx Health Info Systems

Gone are the days of bulky paper files. Rx Health Info Systems provides a digital platform for managing patient records, making it easier for healthcare professionals to access and update medical histories. I, for one, can testify to how much more efficient healthcare delivery has become—I can now pull up patient data in seconds instead of flipping through endless paperwork.

CheckUps Medical

For patients in remote areas, seeing a doctor can be a major challenge. CheckUps Medical offers telemedicine services, allowing people to consult doctors from their phones. I’ve personally seen the impact of this, especially during the pandemic when in-person visits were difficult. Being able to guide patients through virtual consultations has been a game-changer.

Health Direct Global

Many patients have questions about their symptoms but hesitate to visit a hospital. Health Direct Global provides an AI-powered chatbot that offers preliminary diagnoses and health advice.

Berry Health

Berry Health is one of the best virtual medical services, providing private consultations, medications, and nationwide delivery throughout Ghana. They specialize in areas like sexual health, mental health, and dermatology. It’s very convenient and affordable. Through Berry Health, a patient can consult with a licensed medical practitioner, get diagnosed, and, to top it all off, have their prescription delivered straight to their home—without moving a muscle to go to the hospital.

Zipline

Access to essential medical supplies in remote areas has always been a challenge in Ghana. Zipline, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service, uses drones to deliver blood, vaccines, and medications to hard-to-reach communities. This service has been invaluable, especially in emergencies where timely delivery can save lives.

MediTrack

Fake medications are a real danger in Ghana, and MediTrack helps combat this issue by allowing patients to verify their prescriptions through a digital platform. I always advise my patients to use this service to ensure they’re getting authentic medication.

VaxTech

Another notable mention in the transformation of healthcare in Ghana, VaxTech provides digital immunization records, ensuring no vaccine doses are missed. Tracking vaccinations can be a hassle, especially for parents with young children.

Although we have a long way to go in improving the healthcare industry in Ghana, the healthtech scene is not just growing—it’s truly transforming lives. These startups and many more are making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and safe in Ghana and beyond.
