Anthropic’s compute bill keeps climbing. Reuters, citing a person familiar with the matter, reports the Claude maker has agreed to a $35B cloud pact with Lambda, the Nvidia-backed GPU cloud, tied to a roughly 350 MW AI data center in Nueces County, Texas.

Hut 8, the former crypto miner that has repositioned itself around AI infrastructure, is developing the site. The contract covers Nvidia capacity that Lambda brings online to absorb demand for Claude. None of the four companies involved, Anthropic, Lambda, Nvidia or Hut 8, commented on the reported deal.

Days before, Anthropic had disclosed roughly $45B in planned cloud-rental spending at Nscale’s West Virginia campus. Read together, the two deals show how far in advance AI leaders are locking down power, GPUs and data center space.

For Lambda, the reported deal cements its position among the largest independent GPU clouds at a moment when compute supply is the binding constraint for frontier model builders. For Anthropic, it extends a pattern of multi-year, multi-billion-dollar infrastructure commitments that now span several US states and a roster of providers.

The Texas project highlights how quickly the AI buildout is pulling in partners from adjacent industries. Hut 8 built its name mining bitcoin; its pivot to hosting AI workloads mirrors a broader shift across the former crypto infrastructure sector.
