Sunny, an AI companion that walks people with mild dementia through memory exercises, is expanding its reach as its creator closes a $16M seed round. NewDays, the Seattle startup behind the platform, announced the funding and a Nevada launch on September 2, with Madrona and General Catalyst leading the round.
Sunny carries out conversational memory drills and cognitive games for people with mild dementia or cognitive impairment, backed by NewDays’ telehealth clinicians. The company argues that scaling this care digitally can reach far more patients than clinic-based therapy alone, and it is running research aimed at preserving cognitive function.
Chief Executive Babak Parviz, a former Amazon and Google X executive, co-founded NewDays with Daniel Kelly. The seed total builds on earlier tranches raised since the platform’s 2025 launch and will fund the state expansion plus continued clinical validation.
