London’s Sava raises €32M to shrink glucose sensors

Sava, a London startup building a wearable that reads molecules just beneath the skin, has closed a €32.08M ($36M) Series B to fund manufacturing scale-up and commercial readiness. Ascensia led the round, with JamJar Investments, Norrsken VC, Simplyhealth Ventures, Balderton Capital and Pentland Ventures also taking part; total funding now reaches €60.6M ($68M).

The company also brought in Ascensia, a PHC Holdings unit, to distribute and commercialize its device, with Europe first in line. PHC formed Ascensia in 2016 by acquiring Bayer Diabetes Care, and the Basel company now sells into more than 90 countries.

The company’s core technology is a microsensor roughly ten times shorter than the filament in a conventional continuous glucose monitor. Sava says the shorter profile still reaches interstitial fluid while disturbing the skin far less.

Imperial College London bioengineers Renato Circi and Rafael Michali founded Sava in 2019, spent five years in stealth, and emerged in June 2024 with a Seed round above €7.4M led by Balderton Capital and Exor Ventures. A €16.6M Series A led by Pentland Ventures and Balderton Capital followed in July 2025.

Glucose is the first target, but the platform was built to track other biomarkers as well. Because it was designed for high-volume manufacturing from the outset, Sava chose to scale through a distribution partner rather than a direct sales force. “For decades, continuous monitoring has been held back by the same legacy technology,” said co-founder and co-CEO Circi, who framed the partnership as a route to “millions of people with diabetes.”
