TidalSense, a Cambridge-based healthtech startup, has raised $19 million to scale its AI-powered respiratory diagnostic platform. The round was led by Cross-Border Impact Ventures, with participation from BGF, Airstream Capital, and Foresight Group. The company has raised $40 million to date, including grant funding.

The startup’s N-Tidal Diagnose device requires patients to breathe normally into a handheld monitor for 75 seconds. AI models trained on more than 2.5 million patient breaths analyze the resulting CO₂ waveform to detect chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the UK’s third biggest cause of death. The test takes under five minutes compared to roughly an hour for traditional spirometry, allowing clinicians to see four to six patients per hour instead of one.

CEO Ameera Patel, a doctor whose own struggle with a delayed asthma diagnosis inspired the technology, says any healthcare professional can be trained to use the device in 10 minutes. TidalSense plans to use the new funding to accelerate NHS rollout, expand across Europe, and enter the U.S. market.
