Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has raised $200 million from Insight Partners in a round that underscores how serious the bot problem has become.

Founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, Spur helps enterprises distinguish legitimate human users from increasingly sophisticated bot traffic. The company’s technology identifies fake users and threats by analyzing the infrastructure behind internet activity, rather than just the activity itself.

The timing could hardly be better. Cloudflare reported last month that bots are now more active on the internet than humans for the first time in history. The rise of agentic AI traffic has accelerated the crossover, which Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince said arrived ahead of his own predictions.

“As sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot,” Insight Partners’ Thomas Krane said in a statement.

Spur plans to use the funding to expand its engineering and go-to-market teams as demand surges from enterprises struggling to cope with an internet where automated traffic now outnumbers human visitors.
