Retail demand was clear before the first trade: margin loans hit HK$55.99 billion and the retail allocation was oversubscribed 9.17 times. The exchange responded by granting options and short-selling eligibility on the very first day of trading.

Zhongji Innolight builds the transceivers that convert electrical and optical signals for high-speed transmission, the hardware linking servers and network gear over fiber inside data centers, cloud infrastructure and AI systems. Its Shenzhen-listed shares have ridden the AI buildout as hyperscalers expand capacity, and the Hong Kong float gives global funds a cleaner path into that trade.

The float is a test for Hong Kong’s equity market, which has been hunting for large technology deals. Adding derivatives and short-selling tools on the first session shows the exchange betting this listing will draw lasting liquidity.

For the optical networking sector, the timing follows a surge in demand for high-bandwidth interconnects as AI clusters grow denser. Analysts expect that wave to continue as GPU farms require faster links between compute and storage, keeping component makers like Zhongji Innolight in focus.
