Mubadala is leading a $250 million Series C for Moove that values the mobility company at $2.1 billion, backing its push from ride-hailing financing into owning and operating autonomous fleets.

Woven Capital and Ion Pacific co-lead the round, with BlackRock, MUFG, Franklin Templeton, Uber, BlueCrest Capital Management, Sona Asset Management and Raptor Group among the participants.

Moove started in Nigeria in 2020 and now runs a 42,000-vehicle ride-hailing fleet across 14 countries, employing 3,300 people. Its newest business is robotaxis: the company operates Waymo vehicles in Phoenix, Miami and Las Vegas, with London on the horizon.

Co-founder and co-CEO Ladi Delano says Moove intends to buy Waymo robotaxis using debt financing, and already owns vehicles from another autonomous driving developer. The company’s ambition is to hold hundreds of thousands of robotaxis. This round funds about 350 new hires and automated depots it calls nests, which use robotics for around-the-clock charging, maintenance and servicing.

Delano’s argument is that no one in the AV ecosystem wants to own the metal, from developers to marketplaces like Uber. Moove’s experience financing and managing human-driven fleets, he says, makes it the natural operator for the robotaxi era.
