OpenAI has absorbed NextSlide, a startup whose tools turn prompts, notes and documents into editable slide decks. Founder Ahmed Beshry said the team now works on ChatGPT, and the deal actually closed earlier this year even though it was announced August 8. Financial terms were not disclosed.
NextSlide’s product was designed to make visual communication more accessible, turning rough research and scribbled notes into polished presentations. Beshry, who previously co-founded checkout startup Caper AI before Instacart bought it in 2021 for $350M, said the group will keep pursuing that mission inside OpenAI.
The quiet acquisition fits OpenAI’s pattern of folding small tooling teams into flagship products. ChatGPT has been steadily adding document and presentation features, and the NextSlide crew gives it a dedicated deck-building unit.
For founders building productivity tools, the deal is a reminder that distribution now outweighs standalone utility. A presentation app with a strong model integration can end up inside the world’s most-used AI assistant rather than competing with it.
