The trouble started with a 2021 launch and $1.2M from outside backers. Now Selena Gomez and her mother are defendants in a securities fraud suit over Wondermind, the mental health startup the singer co-founded.

The plaintiffs say they invested nearly $1.2M in the company. They allege Wondermind failed to deliver on commitments without informing investors, and that Gomez stopped marketing the startup after contractually promising to do so.

Court filings accuse Gomez of signing a contract to promote the company and then walking away. The listed failures are blunt: partnerships that never existed, initiatives that never materialized, an app that was never built.

Investors say they stayed in the dark until The Cut reported on the company’s troubles in September 2025. Wondermind launched in 2021 to offer daily mental health resources to users.

The suit seeks to recover the investments plus legal fees. Wondermind did not respond to a request for comment. Forbes first reported the case.
