Bengaluru workforce housing startup HerSpace Manufacturing has secured a fresh $40M commitment from existing investor Gray Matters Capital, bringing the impact firm’s total backing to $50M.
The money arrives over a 30-month runway as a blend of debt, quasi-equity and equity. HerSpace intends to roll out affordable employee housing across manufacturing clusters spanning Greater Bengaluru, Hosur, Chennai and Andhra Pradesh, and to spend on the personnel and systems behind those projects.
Founded in 2023 by Bob Pattillo and Puneeth Thimmegowda, HerSpace funds, designs, builds and operates leased accommodation for industrial workers, with services such as security, housekeeping and food bundled into operations. The company says it has more than 950 modular beds delivered and operational, with over 10,000 beds in the pipeline.
Gray Matters Capital first invested $10M in HerSpace in 2025. The new funding follows a pattern the startup says is gaining traction with manufacturers: one company that initially placed 200 women employees in HerSpace accommodation later took up the remaining 280-bed capacity after more workers sought relocation to the facility.
The expansion comes as India’s manufacturing push collides with a housing shortage. A 2024 NITI Aayog study noted that a lack of accommodation near industrial areas makes it harder for companies to retain workers and can discourage women from taking manufacturing jobs. HerSpace says its model also helps employers cut transport costs and carbon footprints.
CEO Simha Nagaraj called the milestone a defining moment for the company, reflecting both the market opportunity and the work of its team and founders.
