Chip design keeps getting more expensive, and that rising cost is pushing more companies toward specialist firms. Semiconductor engineering services are a quiet but steadily expanding corner of the industry, and Tessolve Semiconductor wants a larger share of that work.

The Bengaluru company, part of Hero Electronix, has closed a $75M round led by Vector Line Capital, a US strategic investment firm. Proceeds will bankroll acquisitions that fill gaps in what Tessolve already does, widen the services it sells to customers and deepen its reach across overseas markets.

Srini Chinamilli founded the business in 2004. Today it works across the semiconductor value chain, handling chip architecture and design, test development and embedded systems, and delivering turnkey projects that run from design through to packaged parts. More than 10 countries host its operations, and the company employs over 3,500 engineers.

September of last year brought an earlier windfall: $150M raised from TPG, the global alternative asset manager. Together, the two rounds hand Tessolve a sizeable pile of cash for consolidation.

Hyperscalers buy from it, and so do chip startups, system builders and established semiconductor names. The work spans artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, automotive, data centers and industrial applications. Silicon and system testing labs belong to the company too, and its client roster takes in 18 of the 20 largest chip businesses worldwide.

Behind the deal sits a broader shift. Global chipmakers keep opening design centers while New Delhi encourages domestic fabrication, and services outfits capture that spending without ever taking on the capital burden of a fab.
