Most questions an investor asks about a market can be settled by a company register. In Austria, one developer working alone has now made those filings readable directly by AI assistants.
Agentic Firmenbuch, built by Vienna-based Jakob Neugebauer, lets tools like Claude query the official Firmenbuch without a human at the keyboard. Pose a question such as which Upper Austrian machine builders clear a 40% equity ratio and have grown lately, and the answer arrives as a list citing the underlying filings.
It started at the end of June as a free hosted MCP server with open-source code, published on GitHub and listed by Austria’s open data portal. Subscriptions, a web app and a business tier followed.
Free filings, repackaged for agents
Nothing in the source material costs anything. Filed accounts and the register itself are published by Austria’s Ministry of Justice under a CC BY 4.0 licence. From that, the service derives equity, debt, margin and growth ratios covering some 350,000 Austrian companies, updated daily. Fiscal 2022 is where structured ratios begin; earlier years survive only as original PDFs. German coverage adds about 1.63 million companies, though financials there are piloted in certain regions and only master data is complete.
Credits, not seats, are the billing unit: a typical query consumes three to six of them, roughly 30 to 60 cents, and searches that fail cost nothing. Where completeness is in doubt, Neugebauer defers to the register.
Competition exists. Winkk’s Firmenbuch.ai exposes the same records over MCP, long-standing vendors KSV1870 and North Data have sold financials for years, and Comparables.ai raised $6M recently to find acquisition targets with AI. What a one-person product offers is a fast, clean agent interface, not data nobody else has.
For sales teams, M&A advisers and market researchers, that may be sufficient.
