Cresta Intelligence is joining Salesforce, giving the cloud giant a customer service brain trained on voice and chat conversations. Salesforce disclosed no price in its announcement. The Information reported the figure at $2.7B.

The Boston-founded startup raised more than $270M during its independent life and at its 2021 peak was valued near $1.6B. Cresta started as a tool for human agents, whispering real-time guidance during live calls, flagging upsell openings and pulling answers from other systems. It evolved into software that answers enquiries on its own.

Its agents handle appointment scheduling and preference-based replies, drawing on past interactions. Businesses can build voice agents for narrow jobs, such as processing device returns for an electronics retailer, and choose which underlying model powers each one along with its compliance guardrails.

An architectural choice sets Cresta apart. Rather than one general-purpose agent, its system breaks a ticket into subtasks handled by specialised agents, which tends to resolve requests faster than a single model working through everything in order.

A second product, called Deputy, takes the hardest tickets, gathers the information needed, then pulls in the right employees and chases follow-ups. Opera lets teams fine-tune models for specific support scenarios, and Synthetic Customers generates fake conversations so companies can stress-test new agents before release.

For founders building in the customer support category, the deal is a warning wrapped in a payday. Vertical AI tools with real enterprise traction have become acquisition targets for platform vendors that would rather buy the workflow than rebuild it.
