Blackstone plans to invest $30 billion in AI data centers in Japan, the firm’s president confirmed, marking one of the largest infrastructure commitments in the country’s technology sector.

The investment will fund the construction of multiple hyperscale data centers across Japan to meet surging demand for AI compute capacity. Blackstone has been one of the most aggressive investors in data center infrastructure globally, betting that the AI boom will require massive new computing facilities for years to come.

Japan has emerged as a key market for AI infrastructure investment, driven by government support for digital transformation and the country’s role as a major technology hub. Blackstone’s pledge follows similar commitments from other global investors including KKR, Brookfield, and DigitalBridge.

The data centers will be designed to support the intensive power and cooling requirements of Nvidia’s latest GPU clusters, which are essential for training and running large AI models. Japan’s stable regulatory environment and strong energy infrastructure make it an attractive destination for these projects.

Blackstone has already established a significant presence in Japan’s real estate and private equity markets. This data center push represents a major expansion of its footprint in the country.
