UK sovereign fund backs Palantir veterans’ security startup Augur

Britain’s GBP 500M Sovereign AI Fund has taken a stake in Augur, a security startup whose founders include two former Palantir executives.

The fund declined to disclose the exact amount. It typically writes cheques between GBP 5M and GBP 10M, leading and following seed and Series A rounds, and invests across AI model development, drug discovery and agentic AI. Augur previously raised $15M in a seed round led by Plural in June.

Augur’s pitch is that fragmented sensor networks can be fused into a real-time intelligence layer for national security and public safety. The distinction from conventional CCTV is timing. Traditional systems record footage for review after an incident, while Augur aims to surface developing risks as they unfold. Transport for London is a user.

The fund’s stated rationale is ownership. Its spokesperson argued that Britain needs the capability and should hold it domestically, noting the sensor infrastructure already exists and the software keeping people safe should be built in the country too.

Alongside the cheque, Augur gains access to Isambard-AI, the UK’s most powerful supercomputer, which it will use to train large multi-camera datasets.

The investment fits a broader European pattern of state capital moving into security and AI infrastructure, with governments increasingly willing to fund capabilities they consider strategically exposed.
