German unmanned systems manufacturer Quantum Systems has closed a $1.2 billion (1 billion euro) Series D round, one of the largest defense technology financings in European history. The round more than doubled the company’s valuation to approximately $8 billion on a post-money basis.
The round was co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, with participation from Fidelity, Wellington Management, A.P. Moller Holding, and existing investors Balderton and HV Capital. The company says it now has over $1.2 billion in dry powder to execute its strategy.
“The future is unmanned. Defense will be defined by autonomous systems that can operate together across domains in real time,” said co-CEO and co-founder Florian Seibel. Quantum Systems is already profitable and deployed around the world, building drones and autonomous systems for military applications.
The raise follows a period of sustained activity in European defense tech, with governments increasing spending on autonomous systems and unmanned aerial vehicles amid heightened geopolitical tensions. Quantum Systems plans to use the capital to accelerate production and expand into new markets.
