Peak XV backs Blacksmith’s $45M bet on AI code validation

Blacksmith, which builds tools to test and validate software before it ships, has raised a $45M Series B led by Peak XV Partners that values the startup at $550M.

The mark is nearly 10 times the $60M valuation set by its $10M Series A less than a year ago. GV and Y Combinator joined in, pushing total funding to $58.5M.

Blacksmith, founded in 2024, started as a cloud provider for continuous integration workloads, running the builds and tests that gate code before production. It has since added Codesmith, an AI agent that fixes failed checks automatically. Over 5,000 customers now use the platform, among them Mercury, Supabase, Clerk, Ashby, and Expensify, up from about 700 a year ago.

Co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash said revenue has climbed to tens of millions of dollars and some of its largest customers spend more than $1M a year. He argues validation is the real bottleneck of the AI coding era.

Jayaprakash argues that validation, not generation, is where AI-era development actually stalls, since teams now write far more code than any review pipeline was built for.

The market is crowded. GitHub Actions, Cursor Automations, and validation built into OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code all chase the same workflow, along with cloud services from AWS, Microsoft and Google. The startup positions itself on testing speed and cost, and intends to move into a broader set of coding tools that help developers write, validate, and merge software faster.

The round shows investors placing fresh bets on quality control in the AI coding stack, where output volume is exploding but correctness is far from guaranteed.
