Enterprise AI bills are the new battleground, and Writer is betting on cheaper agents.

The startup released Palmyra X6 on Thursday, a flagship model for marketing and revenue teams built as a post-training variation of Z.ai’s open-source GLM-5.2. Writer claims its Agent platform paired with the model runs at an average of 52% lower cost, 48% faster, with a 10% quality gain; basic tasks could fall as much as 50% cheaper.

X6 replaces Palmyra X5, which arrived in April 2025, and was tuned around content generation, sub-agent delegation and brand voice. The company also upgraded the agentic harness that strings multi-step workflows together without letting token spend run away.

Co-founder and CTO Waseem AlShikh says adoption is the driver: token consumption climbing means the product is working, but costs must flatten for it to stay working.

The launch positions Writer against rivals selling ever-bigger proprietary models, arguing open foundations plus agent efficiency win the economics argument.
