Sequoia hands code testing startup Blacksmith a $1B mark

Blacksmith's revenue grew 17 times this year on the back of a simple premise: AI writes so much code that testing has become the bottleneck.

Every merged pull request has to build and pass tests first, and much of that work now happens on infrastructure Blacksmith operates. The AI code testing company is a unicorn after a $66M Series C.

\n

Sequoia Capital led the round at a $1B valuation. Premji Invest came in as a new name, with Peak XV Partners, Google Ventures and Y Combinator returning. Blacksmith has now banked $125M in total, following a $45M Series B led by Peak XV that valued it at $550M.

Integration testing as a service

\n

Aditya Jayaprakash, Aayush Shah and Aditya Maru launched the firm in 2024. Its product is continuous integration, the automated stage where code is compiled and exercised before it reaches a shared branch. According to the company, those jobs complete in half the time of a standard pipeline while costing roughly 60% less.

\n

Revenue is climbing fast. Since January 2026, Blacksmith’s annual recurring revenue multiplied 17 times, and the count of weekly CI jobs moved from 5 million past 90 million. Ashby, Granola, Handshake and LangChain sit among the more than 10,000 organizations on the platform.

\n

Capacity is the other asset. Blacksmith runs close to 10 megawatts across data centers in the United States and Europe and intends to grow that footprint at least fivefold during 2027. The new money goes to staff and machines.

\n

Demand for verification tools is tracking the spread of coding agents, which produce more code than reviewers can read. A pipeline that keeps pace with them is the company’s bet, and the valuation assumes it holds.
