Nvidia is weighing a guarantee that would stand behind construction payments at Nscale’s AI campus in West Virginia, an arrangement that pushes the chipmaker’s support past chips and leases into steel and concrete.
The Information reported the talks first, and Bloomberg later corroborated them. The proposed residual value guarantee would have Nvidia intervene if Nscale defaulted on construction bills, run the facility for a time, and then assist in finding a buyer and a fresh tenant. That structure would let the cloud provider finance electricity and building costs at the site.
Most of Nvidia’s help for cloud operators has come as leases and hardware purchases rather than construction.
The stakes are large for Nscale, which is pursuing a public listing at a valuation of as much as $35 billion while analysts question whether it can deliver its pipeline. Its installed base ran to roughly 25,000 advanced accelerators by August, far below the half-million it wants online. Rain washing off the site has spilled into neighboring houses repeatedly, though state certification came in September after months of negotiation.
Anthropic’s $44.6 billion order covers the first 460-megawatt building there, with Vera Rubin chips slated for it. A $45 billion follow-on for a second building is under discussion. Grid power slipping into the 2030s in Britain led Microsoft to abandon a planned Nscale site there.
Roughly $170 billion has flowed from the company to neoclouds and large customers as investments and credit support, $1 billion of it convertible financing committed to Nscale in September. Shares in CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN all shed over 30% of their value last month.
