Shortwave is the largest single position in Robinhood Ventures Fund II, roughly 4.5% of the portfolio, with the fund putting about $1M into the AI email company. The startup’s agents are built to finish work end to end: drafting, triaging, and sending messages rather than stopping at suggested replies that a human still has to approve and send. That focus on completion, not suggestion, is what separates its approach from assistants that stop at the draft. Shortwave’s position atop the fund’s holdings puts it ahead of the dev-tools and vertical AI names that fill out the rest of the portfolio.

Email is a natural proving ground for agents that finish work, because the workflow is well defined: read, decide, respond. Shortwave’s AI assistant runs that full loop across inboxes and calendars, and the fund’s decision to make it the top holding signals confidence that autonomous email is a category worth leading with. The category has gotten crowded as AI assistants multiply across productivity software, which makes completion, not suggestion, the differentiator.

The position stands out inside a fund that spreads $250K SAFE notes across roughly 80 startups, most of them Y Combinator names, and rarely concentrates this much in a single company. A weight near 4.5% is a statement of conviction in a basket built for breadth. The fund’s shares begin trading on the NYSE on August 13 at $25 apiece, and Shortwave’s weight means its performance moves the whole basket, making the email company the holding to watch when the fund starts trading. For a fund built on small checks, the concentration is notable, and it gives the email company outsized influence on the fund’s returns.
