Adaptyv, a Lausanne startup building automated wet labs for AI-designed proteins, has raised €34.35M, roughly $40M, in a Series A led by Highland Europe. Existing backers Ace Ventures, ByFounders and Y Combinator doubled down.
The company lets scientists submit protein designs through a web platform or an API, then synthesizes DNA in-house, expresses proteins cell-free and measures binding with built-in quality control. The API means AI agents can order their own experiments directly, closing the loop between model predictions and physical results.
Revenue has grown roughly tenfold since Ace led a €6.8M seed in late 2024, and the team has tripled to about 25 people. Adaptyv counts more than 100 customers, including top-five pharma companies, frontier AI labs and AI-native drug discovery startups. In a benchmark with Anthropic’s Claude Science, 26.8% of 1,320 AI-designed sequences bound their targets.
The new capital will roughly triple lab capacity by the end of 2026 and open a London lab in the fourth quarter, with headcount headed toward 60. The long-term goal, founders Julian Englert and Daniel Nakhaee-Zadeh Gutierrez say, is a biological gigafactory where lab throughput no longer limits how fast biology advances.
