McGraw Hill has folded Teachally, a five-person Seattle startup, into its education business, pairing its K-12 catalog with AI software that turns state standards into ready-to-teach lessons. Terms went undisclosed when the deal was announced September 2.

Teachally’s tools generate lesson plans, assignments and assessments aligned to the standards teachers actually work against, cutting the hours spent building classroom materials from scratch. McGraw Hill said the acquisition will accelerate curriculum development and make adaptation, localization and translation faster for instructional content in the US and international markets.

The startup was led by Daniel Bernstein, a veteran of Seattle’s education technology scene. For McGraw Hill, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the purchase continues a pattern of buying generative AI capability instead of building it in-house, as schools push publishers for tools that personalize content without abandoning trusted curriculum.
