Meta has handed its enterprise AI ambitions to Chirantan “CJ” Desai, poaching the chief executive of MongoDB for a newly created post, chief enterprise platform officer, answering straight to Mark Zuckerberg.
Desai takes charge of the Meta Enterprise Platform, a bundle that puts the Muse agent alongside a business agent, Muse API and Muse Code for companies and developers.
In Zuckerberg’s telling, that platform leans on “advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure” and on years of close work with big customers, advantages he says few rivals can match.
Betting the agent wave goes corporate
The hire lands hard on MongoDB. Desai stepped in only in November 2025, taking over from Dev Ittycheria, and is already on his way out. Shares gave up about 25% once the news broke, sharpening a difficult 2026 for the database vendor, while Meta’s own stock eased roughly 4%. Ittycheria has been named interim president and chief executive.
His resume was built on selling infrastructure to large companies: before MongoDB he was president of product and engineering at Cloudflare.
Muse, Meta’s consumer assistant, has already overtaken ChatGPT among free iPhone apps. The pressure from investors has not eased, though: Meta still has to show that its AI spending will turn into revenue.
OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic and Salesforce are already selling into the same corporate budgets, with a long tail of startups chasing them.
