Supabase banks $150M and absorbs Turso for agent workloads

Open-source database company Supabase has banked $150M and agreed to buy rival Turso as it builds for the AI agent era.

GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, led the financing. Alphabet’s CapitalG took part, along with IronArc and SquarePeg. Neither side disclosed a price for Turso.

The two announcements landed together, a sign the company wants investors to read them as one story. Supabase commercialises PostgreSQL, the database many AI teams already run. Turso brings a lightweight engine built for edge and agent workloads, where many small, fast queries matter more than one giant machine.

The timing fits a broader shift. Enterprises now want databases that hold state for autonomous agents that call tools, retry tasks and keep memory. That demand has pushed infrastructure startups up the funding tables all year.

Supabase’s raise adds to a crowded field. Cloudflare, Neon and others are chasing the same agent-era developer. GIC’s backing signals sovereign funds are willing to bet on picks-and-shovels software rather than only chips and data centers.

For founders, the signal is simple. Investors are paying for infrastructure that agents touch, not another layer of model access. Supabase now has to prove the Turso deal turns into products developers adopt quickly, before rival platforms close the gap.
