Solar construction startup Gritt emerged from stealth with $34M to deploy robots that install solar plants and eventually automate heavy construction work.
The company’s wheeled machines navigate muddy job sites using AI-powered vision, carrying solar panels into position with millimeter-level precision. Founder and CEO previously led robotics teams at both Tesla and Amazon Robotics, bringing deep experience in warehouse and factory automation to the construction sector.
The $34M round combines equity and project-based financing from Congruent Ventures and Climate Insiders, plus strategic partners from the energy sector. Gritt already holds paid contracts with two utility-scale solar developers and plans to deploy an initial fleet of 50 robots by the end of 2026.
The company’s long-term ambition extends well beyond solar. Gritt envisions its platform as a general-purpose construction robot that can be adapted for commercial building, roadwork, and other heavy civil projects. Labor shortages across the construction industry, which faces a projected shortfall of 500,000 workers in the US alone by 2027, create a massive addressable market.
Solar installations globally are projected to grow 40% year-over-year, driven by falling panel costs and renewable energy mandates. Gritt’s robots target the installation bottleneck where labor constraints slow down the connection between panel manufacturing and the grid.
Gritt plans to use the funding to scale manufacturing, hire engineering talent, and expand its commercial team as it moves from pilot deployments to production-scale operations.
