Ventures Platform has closed an oversubscribed $84M second fund, giving the Pan-African firm firepower to expand well beyond its Nigerian home base.
The fund targets early-stage founders in fintech, healthcare, SaaS and other areas where technology solves basic needs and builds lasting companies, founding partner Kola Aina told TechCrunch. AI is central to the strategy, he said, calling it an enabler of entirely new cost structures in African markets.
AI sits at the center of the thesis. “We’re particularly interested in where AI changes the economics of serving African markets,” Aina said, pointing to how the technology can cut service-delivery costs and ease labor shortages. “For us, AI is most interesting when it is not simply a feature, but an enabler of an entirely different cost structure, business model or market.”
Fund I closed at $46M in 2021, making the new vehicle nearly double its predecessor and a signal that global investors remain willing to back Africa-focused managers despite a tougher fundraising climate.
The timing matters: African startups raised less in the first half of 2026 than in prior years, and founders increasingly complain that capital is concentrated in a handful of markets. Ventures Platform’s broader geographic mandate, and its bet that AI can reshape unit economics across the continent, gives it a shot at funding the next wave of pan-African companies.
