Gudea banks $7M to forecast which stories go viral

The Minneapolis startup maps how narratives travel across more than 600 platforms so brands can see reputational threats before they spread.

Gudea sells a way to see which online stories are about to take off, and the Minneapolis company has just banked $7M in seed funding to push that work further. Collide Capital and Mudita Venture Partners split the lead on the round, so Gudea’s lifetime total now sits at roughly $15M since its 2023 founding, per co-founder and chief executive Keith Presley. Presley’s shorthand for the product: a storm tracker for the internet.

Hashtag monitoring and keyword tracking, in Gudea’s telling, capture only part of the picture. The company charts instead the pathways a claim follows through platforms, groups and people, then estimates how far it will spread, when it will accelerate and when it will fade. Revenue has climbed 357% year over year, and coverage extends past 600 social platforms. Clients include large AI developers plus entertainment, telecom and retail businesses, though Gudea will not name them, citing the sensitivity of its assignments.

Unusually, the venture traces to the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit that took intelligence-community techniques aimed at online extremist networks and redirected them toward domestic information work. A turning point arrived when the team studied the backlash over Bud Light’s campaign with actor Dylan Mulvaney, finding that the routes which once carried COVID-era disinformation had resurfaced. That work became a standalone business in 2023.

Why it matters: enterprises now fund reputational risk much as they fund security, and predictive narrative tools are a small but rapidly expanding slice of that spending. Gudea’s intelligence-world pedigree is what sets it apart.
