Business intelligence has been a mature, boring category for a decade. Hex just raised $100M at a $1.2B valuation on the argument that agents break it open again.

Peak XV Partners and 137 Ventures co-led the round, with a16z, Amplify Partners, Redpoint, Sequoia Capital and Zero Prime participating. Chief executive Barry McCardel announced the financing on October 27 alongside Hex 4.0, a platform rebuilt around code and AI agents.

Replacing the thing that works

The strategic risk is unusual for a growth round. Hex is spending new capital to swap out parts of a mature product customers already pay for, betting that agent-driven workflows pull data work away from conventional dashboards.

That makes adoption the whole thesis. If teams keep opening the old interface, the rebuild is expensive overhead. If agents become the default way analysts query warehouses, Hex is early rather than late.

Why Peak XV led a US deal

A US analytics company taking a lead cheque from Peak XV says something about where growth capital comes from now. The Indian firm has built its portfolio around India and Southeast Asia, and analytics tooling that touches data teams everywhere fits that remit.

The category fight ahead

Every warehouse vendor now ships its own AI query layer, and model providers are moving toward direct data access. Hex’s defence is the workspace itself: version-controlled analysis, shared context and governance a raw chatbot does not offer.

A $1.2B valuation is not extraordinary by 2026 standards, which may be the point. The round gives Hex room to run without an aggressive mark, and the rebuild gives it a story for the next twelve months.
