Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, based in Barcelona, has secured EUR 19.6M in the first close of its Series A round. Indra Group led the investment through IndraMind, its sovereign AI initiative, committing EUR 10M. Spain’s Society for Technological Transformation, a public entity reporting to the Ministry for Digital Transformation, also participated.

The blend of industrial and state capital reflects intentionality: the financing is positioned as much around securing national technological autonomy as it is about funding a commercial enterprise.

Qilimanjaro originated in 2019 as a Barcelona spinout from IFAE, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the University of Barcelona. The company builds full-stack quantum computers, developing both the hardware layer and the software that sits above it.

Its technical choice centers on fluxonium qubits instead of the more widely adopted transmon architecture. The company argues fluxonium qubits offer inherently greater resilience to error. It integrates analogue and digital quantum processors in a multimodal configuration that it says is already deployed in production environments.

Three Qilimanjaro systems operate at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The company has fielded eight systems in total across customers in energy, telecommunications, logistics, healthcare and finance. Remote access is available through SpeQtrum Cloud, its quantum-as-a-service offering.

Qilimanjaro’s thesis is that quantum computing’s commercial viability will materialize through AI applications, unlocking problems classical architectures cannot address.
