One private equity owner is folding two of France’s larger business software companies into a single group valued above €10B, or about $11.6B.

Silver Lake already controls both Cegid and Silae and will keep majority ownership after the combination, which should close in the first half of 2027 subject to regulatory approval. CNBC reported the terms first. The merged business is expected to produce roughly €1.6B in annual revenue.

The logic is breadth. Cegid handles accounting, finance, tax, retail and business management, and recently bought the payments and digital banking firm Shine. Silae supplies payroll and human resources software. The plan calls for a 1,400-person developer organization with AI as a leading investment priority.

Managing partner Christian Lucas said the aim is one integrated offering for entrepreneurs and mid-sized companies instead of several relationships and several contracts.

The deal lands amid a bruising argument over whether AI agents will hollow out the economics of packaged software, a fear Wall Street has nicknamed the SaaSpocalypse. Buying scale and holding it long term is one answer. Whether payroll and accounting incumbents can defend their margins against model-driven rivals is the harder question.
